Residency & Fellowship Programs

Howard University Hospital sponsors the following training programs through the College of Medicine and the College of Dentistry. These programs meet the educational requirements recommended for certification by the respective specialty boards. They are also designed to fulfill the requirements for postgraduate education in each field, as proposed by the respective professional associations.

The heads of clinical departments and the Dean of the College of Medicine assist graduating seniors and alumni in securing suitable hospital appointments. All of the approved residencies at Howard University Hospital are under the direct supervision of the faculty of the College of Medicine. The faculty shares in providing supervision for the training of residents at the District of Columbia General Hospital and other affiliated hospitals.

Residents are assigned to training in specialty services that are approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, American Dental Association or American Psychological Association. Programs are approved for one to five years of training with an established number of residents regulated by the accrediting body for each training program.
